How Buddy handles your information, and how we keep it safe. In plain language, no fine print.

The short version

  • Buddy only stores what it needs to run your class assistant: your name, WhatsApp number, and what you study.
  • Your chats with Buddy stay private. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
  • You can ask Buddy for a copy of your data, or to delete it, anytime.

What we collect

Buddy only keeps what it needs to be your class assistant:

  • Your name, so Buddy can talk to you personally.
  • Your WhatsApp phone number, which is how Buddy reaches you.
  • Your admission number, course or program, and level, so Buddy shows the right lectures.
  • The messages you send Buddy, so it can understand and reply.
  • Quizzes, assignments, and any documents you submit through Buddy.
  • Basic usage details, like when you last chatted, to keep the service running.

Why we collect it

Everything we hold is there to make Buddy useful to you:

  • To show your lecture schedule and send reminders.
  • To run quizzes and assignments for your class.
  • To reply in your preferred language and remember your settings.
  • To fix problems and improve how Buddy works.

We only use your information to provide and improve Buddy. We never use it for advertising, and we never sell it.

Who we share it with

Buddy runs on a few trusted services that process data on our behalf:

  • WhatsApp (Meta) delivers your messages, protected by WhatsApp's encryption while in transit.
  • AI providers (OpenAI and Anthropic), through a secure gateway, generate Buddy's replies. Under their business terms they do not use your messages to train their models.
  • PostHog gives us anonymous website analytics so we can improve our pages.
  • Logfire helps us spot errors and keep Buddy reliable.

We share only what each service needs to do its job, and we never sell your data.

How we keep it safe

Security is built into how Buddy runs, not bolted on afterwards:

  • Your messages travel over encrypted connections (WhatsApp encryption and HTTPS).
  • Your data is stored on secured, managed infrastructure with restricted access.
  • Only the people who operate Buddy can reach your information, and only when needed to run or support the service.
  • We keep your data for as long as you use Buddy, or as long as we need it to run the service.

Your choices and rights

You stay in control of your information:

  • Set how Buddy talks to you (English, Pidgin, or a mix) anytime.
  • Ask for a copy of the information Buddy holds about you.
  • Ask us to delete your data and stop using Buddy.
  • Report a problem or a privacy concern directly to us.
